暑い季節のメジャーイベントなので、ある年の鈴鹿8時間耐久ロードレースであることは確かだ。あまりの暑さに、場内を水着姿で歩く女性来場者がいた。当然 注目を集め、レースを報道したどの雑誌にも、その女性の写真が掲載されることとなった。

それらの写真を見て「この女性の衣装にスポンサーのロゴをつけたら宣伝になる！」と思いついたのが鈴鹿サーキットの担当者らしい。レースクイーン発祥には 諸説あろうが、有力なストーリーのひとつがこれだ。
