Appleは300億ドル企業だ、だが中心となる製品は30もない。こんなことがかつてあっただろうか。 過去の素晴らしいコンシューマエレクトロニクス企業は何千もの製品を作っていた。 僕らは焦点を絞るようにしている。焦点を絞るということは集中するものを 決めることだと考える人がいる。だが全く違う。他の何百もの良い考えを捨てることなんだ。 慎重に選ばなくてはならない。

僕らが行ったことと同様、行わなかったことも本当に誇りに感じている。 わかりやすい例は長きにわたってPDAを作るという圧力を感じたときだ、 僕はある日気づいた、PDAを使う90%の人間は路上で情報を取り出しているだけだと。 情報を入力していない。すぐに携帯電話がそれをすることになる、そうなると PDAの市場はさらに減っていく、それでは続けられない。 だから参入しないことにした。参入していたら、iPodに使う資源が無くなっていた。 おそらく出なかっただろう。
